We work directly with rehab facilities across the United States and help connect people like you with licensed, experienced and reputable treatment. We ask all of the important questions on your behalf and work to get you pre-approved before you enter treatment.

What is the maximum amount my insurance will cover?

Will I need to pay any cash up front?

Percocet is a prescription drug that contains oxycodone and acetaminophen. It is used to treat pain and works by blocking pain receptors. However, Percocet also creates feelings of euphoria, making it both physically and psychologically addictive. If Percocet is taken more frequently or in greater doses than prescribed, addiction is likely.

How Do You Know if Someone Is Addicted to Percocet?

The following are warning signs and symptoms of Percocet abuse:

A preoccupation with finding and using Percocet

Unusual suspicious behavior such as lying, stealing or seclusion

“Doctor shopping” or “pharmacy hopping” in order to get more Percocet

Repeated excuses of having a prescription lost or stolen

A belief that the individual cannot live without Percocet

Withdrawal symptoms if use is stopped or a dose is missed

Taking Percocet in unauthorized ways such as snorting or injecting

Percocet addiction impacts the life of the user and those around them. This addiction can be life-threatening, and if a Percocet abuse problem is suspected help should be found as soon as possible.

Percocet Detoxification, Treatment and Recovery

Someone who is struggling with an addiction to Percocet needs professional addiction treatment that is individualized and comprehensive. This can be found through a drug treatment facility. Treatment should begin with detox, the process in which the Percocet is eliminated from the body, and the withdrawal symptoms are treated. Percocet withdrawal symptoms can include the following:

Anxiety

Constipation

Diarrhea

Nausea

Cramping

Restlessness

Insomnia

Percocet addiction treatment does not end with detox. Detox treatment should be followed by intensive rehabilitation treatment aimed at discovering the root issues that may be contributing to the addiction and dealing with them. Rehabilitation should be as long and intensive as necessary depending on the severity of the addiction. Often, the most successful Percocet rehab facilities are inpatient, and their programs last for at least three months. Regardless of the rehab program chosen, Percocet addiction treatment should include the following:

Counseling

Therapy

Support group attendance

Drug education classes

Relapse prevention training

Percocet Intervention and Helping a Loved One

Since Percocet is a prescription drug, there is often the misconception that it is totally safe and cannot be addictive. This is simply not true. In many cases, prescription drugs such as Percocet can be as difficult or even more difficult to quit using than street drugs such as heroin. The addicted loved one may be in denial about his or her problem and will require an intervention. An intervention is an organized meeting with the addicted individual in which he or she is confronted with the reality of the addiction and its results and is offered a plan of treatment. This should be well-planned and aided by a professional. An intervention can be the hardest yet most loving thing that can be done for a Percocet addict.

What is Holistic Rehab?

Holistic rehab is specifically focused on the rebuilding the mind, body and spirit of the person that is addicted to cocaine. Focus on the individual needs of each patient within a rehab facility is the primary concern. Facilities that specialize in holistic rehab also focus on addressing personal weaknesses as it pertains to a patient’s addiction to make sure they are set on a path to recovery.

Effects of Percocet Addiction

Percocet is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is a narcotic pain reliever and blend of oxycodone and acetaminophen mainly taken in tablet form. It is a synthetic opioid and has been considered to be a manmade version of morphine and heroin and may be referred to as Oxycontin.

Percocet works to block pain receptors in the brain and create a sense of euphoria for the user. As usage of the drug continues, a tolerance to the drug develops, requiring more of the drug to continue to feel the same effects is necessary.

An addiction physically as well as emotionally is developed over time and, to be able to decrease dosage and come off of Percocet, patients may require have to endure intense withdrawal symptoms. A person addicted to Percocet will begin to feel the effects of being without the drug 2-4 hours after the last dosage.

Holistic Rehabilitation Approaches

When beginning holistic rehabilitation some of the different kinds of recommended activities include the following:

Yoga

Acupuncture

Nutritional counseling

Meditation

These are a few techniques within holistic therapies that work in addition to physical needs to bring the body rehab in line with the mind and spirit of the user as well.

Group counseling sessions are a part of any rehab that a drug user will go through. Gaining an understanding of why drug addiction has occurred in the user’s life and how to break the cycle and remain drug free after rehab is a main focus of these counseling sessions.

Percocet falls into the family of opiates which can create a rather strong addiction because of its euphoric strength. Opiates can be treated with medical Percocet abuse help and behavioral therapy. What kind of therapy is needed depends on the individual and their needs, but both may be necessary for overall success. Ridding the body of opioids can be a challenging process as the body develops a dependence on them, thus relaying a message that life can’t be lived without them. Once addiction has formed, you’re now treating an illness that must be looked at from all angles; physical, emotional and mental.

Medical Treatment Options for Percocet Addiction

The physical withdrawal process can be complicated as the body is attempting to rid itself of something it became accustomed to. Medical treatment is sometimes necessary to prevent relapse as intervention allows the body to starve itself of the urge to use again. This process can introduce new medications to the individual that help them to cope with the discomfort of detox. Medication support is by no means a cure or a stand alone treatment. These options help to reestablish normal brain function, diminish cravings, and prevent relapse from occurring, but they should still be coupled with other forms of therapy to ensure long-term success. Also, depending on the length of abuse, type of drug abused, family history, and the individual, weaning off addiction could induce a new addiction if not recognized or monitored. For Percocet addiction advice.

Opioid addiction treatment medication works on the same targets in the brain as the initial opiate itself does. Methadone, Buprenorphine and Naltrexone are effective medications that help to suppress withdrawal symptoms and relieve cravings. All of these medications help patients to break the drug-seeking urge and become open to behavioral treatments.

Behavioral Treatment Programs for Percocet Abuse

Behavioral treatment helps patients uncover root issues surrounding their addiction. This step is crucial to breaking the cycle of addiction and enabling a new pattern of thinking in how to live life. By processing through emotions, modifying attitudes and behaviors related to drug abuse, and increasing healthy life skills, a person increases their chances of full-blown sobriety. These treatments can also enhance the effectiveness of medications and help people stay in treatment longer. These treatment processes can be one-on-one counseling, group therapy or 12-Step Programs. All allow a safe and open context for the drug users to feel comfortable talking through their issues surrounding addiction and drug use.

Cognitive–behavioral therapy—helps patients recognize, avoid, and cope with the situations in which they are most likely to abuse drugs.

Multidimensional family therapy—addresses a wide range of factors influencing the use of drugs by an adolescent by helping to improve overall family functioning.

Motivational interviewing—which capitalizes on the readiness of individuals to change their behavior and enter treatment.

Motivational incentives (contingency management)—positive reinforcement to promote the stoppage of drug use.

Like any narcotic, it has a high potential for abuse and addiction. Physical addiction to Percocet can occur after as little as one week of use. Addiction to Percocet has many short-term and long-term consequences, but it is treatable.

Signs and Symptoms of Percocet Addiction

If you suspect that a friend or family member is addicted to Percocet, there are certain signs and symptoms that you can look for. That person will exhibit a constant and compulsive craving to use Percocet and may say that he or she “needs it” to feel normal. He or she is preoccupied with obtaining more of the drug and will sometimes go to desperate measures to get more. Other signs that he or she may be addicted to Percocet include:

Doctor shopping (switching doctors frequently to obtain multiple prescriptions)

Going through prescriptions too quickly

Stealing, lying, or other dishonest behavior

Unexplainable lack of money

Unexplained mood changes, secluded behavior

Change in social circles, neglecting good friends and finding new ones

You may also notice some physical side effects of being addicted to Percocet. These include but are not limited to:

Constricted pupils

Dizziness and light-headedness

Nausea or vomiting

Drowsiness or sedation

Exaggerated feeling of well-being and euphoria

Itchy skin

Skin rash

Slowed breathing

Having an Intervention

If your loved one is unwilling to admit that he or she has a drug addiction and needs Percocet addiction help, you may need to have an intervention. Having an intervention means talking to the person you are concerned about, addressing the problem and asking him or her to take concrete steps towards getting help. You may choose to have an informal intervention, a one-on-one conversation where you ask questions and voice concerns. Or you may feel that it is necessary to have a formal intervention where you bring a group of people together to confront how that person’s addiction has affected everyone’s lives. Formal interventions usually occur when the person has repeatedly refused to get help. See this Video on Percocet Abuse.

Whether you hold a formal or informal intervention, here are some helpful tips:

Stay calm

Avoid labeling the person an “addict”

Cite specific instances that occurred due to the substance abuse

Stick to what you know firsthand, avoid hearsay

Explain how the person’s behavior has affected you

Be supportive and hopeful about change

Be prepared for denial and resistance

Do not wait to have the intervention until the person has “bottomed out,” had a car crash, or developed some serious health issues. If you think your loved one is struggling with an addiction, confront them now. You should also tell your concerns to that person’s doctor.

Treatment for Percocet Addiction

When having an intervention, you may want to be prepared to give the individual some treatment options. Treatment for Percocet will vary according to the specific needs of the patient, but it will generally always begin with Percocet detox and may be followed by counseling, behavior modification, and therapy.

Percocet is a mixture of oxycodone and acetaminophen (a drug commonly purchased over the counter in things like Tylenol) which puts it alongside other opioid pain relievers like OxyContin. Oxycodone is a synthetic opioid which translates as a manmade version of morphine and heroin also known as OxyContin. It is this chemical that supplies the physical addiction to this drug. Acetaminophen helps to heighten the effects of oxycodone. Addiction occurs when the body becomes accustomed to the drug. It is most commonly taken in tablet form and is common for a Percocet addict to take anywhere from 20 to 40 pills a day. It is a powerful prescription drug, the leading opiate prescribed painkiller, used to treat chronic pain but consequently has produced negative effects such as dependency, abuse and addiction. Therefore, it is quickly becoming one of the most addictive prescription medications. See the warning signs of Percocet abuse.

Percocet Psychological Addiction

The pain relief and detached feelings one gets when on Percocet are what cause the psychological addiction. Your pain receptors simply get used to the presence of it and begin to expect it more and more. “Blocking” the pain creates a sense of euphoria that many users try to recreate each time they take the drug by increasing the dosage and frequency of use. Eventually, unbeknownst to the user, a tolerance to the drug has been created preventing them from experiencing the euphoric feeling they crave thus resulting in addiction. It is a Schedule II Controlled Substance in the U.S. which means it is regulated by the federal government. Opiate painkillers are classified on a schedule from one to five based on factors including their potential for abuse and addiction and accepted medical uses.

However useful Percocet is in helping to manage pain, taking the drug regularly, even for a relatively short period of time, can lead a person to develop a tolerance. This is when the body becomes used to a drug and doesn’t respond in the same way to the prescribed dose. Many people need to take more and more to achieve pain relief. Altering your dose of Percocet in this way can lead to addiction. If more of the drug doesn’t come, then symptoms like nausea, vomiting, irritability and cramps occur as the person goes through withdrawal.

Tolerance into Percocet Addiction

Because of the drug’s excellent pain-relieving abilities, it’s widely prescribed but is best prescribed for a very short period of time and for a very specific pain. The oxycodone in the Percocet unfortunately almost guarantees that anyone taking the drug regularly and for a long period of time will become addicted. When the drug is purchased without a prescription and the dosage isn’t monitored, it’s that much easier to develop a Percocet addiction.
A person with a Percocet addiction will experience symptoms within two to four hours of missing a regular dose. Many people who take Percocet don’t even know that they’re addicted until they stop taking the drug. Then the intense withdrawal symptoms prompt them to take more of the drug, both for pain relief and to stop other symptoms, and they choose to simply remain on the drug, purchasing it illegally if they had a prescription before, to prevent a recurrence of withdrawal symptoms. Most Percocet addicts develop such a dependency on it that they need it to feel normal. It is not only addictive, but affects consciousness as well, often times giving the user and especially the addict a sense of loss of surroundings.

Who is at Risk for Addiction?

Percocet addiction is known to affect women more than men. This stems in large part to the fact that women are more likely to seek medical attention for emotional or psychological problems. It is often times ingested for non-medical uses the most (according to national statistics) in the age groups 12 to 17 and 18 to 25 therefore making adolescents more prone to be at risk for addiction to the drug also. The US National Drug Intelligence Center’s 2006 Drug Threat Assessment reported that “commercial disbursements of commonly abused pharmaceuticals such as oxycodone” nearly doubled between 2000 and 2004 and that their abuse rate is second only to marijuana. Seniors are also a demographic at risk for addiction because they normally already take more medication than the rest of the population.
